Pop-Up Pop-Behind Pop-Top…POP THIS!!
Ahh… the wonderful world of computers. We now have the ability to sneak, snoop, peak, pop and poop all over somebody else’s computer just because we can.
Do you know that I have the Technology to write a virus that will bring down Ft. Knox, Bill Gates, and every computer in the known universe? Yep, I can do that
Would I ever do anything that just because I can? HELL NO!
Let me tell you something about technical people, or least most of us. We’re all responsible and security consious folks. We spend the majority of our careers scoping out ways to keep all of YOU safe from the 1% assholes out there who just get a kick out of messing with others. Which makes us paranoid I guess.
While all of you are out here blogging away to your hearts content, I can promise you that there are a bunch of little computer geeks in the backgoround watching over you:
*They are at your ISP checking to be sure you can get where you want to be today
*They are checking the Network to be sure you get where you want to be in the most direct and quickest route
*They are watching over your email server to make sure no little bugs get in there to interrupt your surfing
Just to name a few.
So why would you make it harder for them, and for all of us by INTENTIONALLY putting crap pop-up ads on your websites and blogs? Being an old geek myself, stuff like that just makes me cringe. Too damned easy for one of those critters to spawn a virus that can bring down every one of us by getting into our email address books and spamming thousands of themselves in a few minutes, for instance.
Hey, if I wanted to play "shoot the pop-up" all day I’ll buy the damned game or write one myself.
Listen, I know pop-up ads are fun to play with, and maybe they even have a place in this world, but just because we CAN doesn’t mean we should. If I see somebodies blog, website, or advertisement I want to see more about I’ll click on it. Forcing me to see it anyway by popping it up in my face just makes me want to shoot it and block your site.
You want people to read your writing or click on your ad then make it attractive enough that you don’t need to force them to waste their time by having to click the close button because they aren’t interested.
Just my opinion.
