Are We Asking Too Much?
After soo many years in Corporate America butting my head against my desk, I’ve often wondered if it isn’t just that employees are asking for too much from our employers.
- We want to be hired fairly for a job we are qualified for
- We want to paid a fair wage for our labor
- We want afordable benefits, like insurance and adequate vacation
- We want to be treated like human beings, not like throwaway disposable diapers at the whim of managment
- We want to be treated respectfully, not talked down to, or demeaned
- We don’t want to be discriminated against because we don’t happen to be the flavor of the day, the quota of the month, the bosses favorite color, don’t wear short enough skirts, or tight enough pants
- We expect to be allowed to do the job we were hired and qualified for
- We shouldn’t be expected to sacrifice our homelife for a job… after all, we are working to support our families, we do not have families just to support our work.
- We are honest workers… we don’t expect to have a company either ask or force us to break laws so we can keep our jobs.
- If there is a dispute, we expect a fair hearing, not a kangaroo court designed to cover the employers ass at the employees expense.
- We expect a company to protect us bodily against injury by having properly inforced safety standards
- We expect to receive necessary training for the specific job as necessary
- We expect raises and promotions based on our performance
I don’t think this is too long a list, nor do I really think it is much to ask for from an employer. Maybe I’m wrong though, because I think the turnover and unemployment rate would be a lot better if these things were provided to employees on a regular basis. Wouldn’t it be great if people actually could enjoy working again, and employers could actually have a viable workforce, instead of a bunch of stressed out zombies?
