Don’t Even Get Me Started
I’ve been mulling this one over for the past several days, and I have to say that the concept really gives me a pain in the butt.
Lately, since Katrina left her mark, religious leaders have started coming out of the woodwork blaming Katrina on everything from Bush’s foreign policy to racial prejudice. Are these people for real, or do they just think everyone else is so stupid they’ll buy anything fed to them?
Let me give you my somewhat less than professionally philosophical opinion.
I think that most people would agree with me when I say that God, any God you choose to worship, must by definition be perfect. If not, then I would question your choice of dieties and recommend you move on.
Given then that God is perfect, why would anyone choose to lay a human trait like revenge, petty jealousy, anger, or retribution on God? Yeah, don’t even bother to quote the Bible to me like "Revenge is mine Sayeth the Lord". God says it’s His if anyone’s, He doesn’t say He’s gonna do it just that it ain’t up to you. That also means, by the way, that it ain’t up to you to decide what God chooses to do or not do or to interpret His actions according to YOUR agenda.
Virtually every religion chooses to interpret their religious documents, ie. Bible, Koran, etc., as if they were the chosen ones. Cool… that means we’re all members of the chosen ones. So we should all expect God to smite anyone who doesn’t agree with us? Who’s right? Go back and re-read the last paragraph.
The bottom line for me is that people need to pull their heads outta their collective rears and quit making stupid claims and accusations, much less trying to justify their actions and activities by trying to drag God into the turmoil.
Katrina was an act of nature and therefore an act of God, I’ll give you that. To claim God was trying to single out the sinners because he offended some other group of sinners though is simply ludicrous. After all, alot of good innocent people also lost their lives when Katrina hit who probably didn’t deserve any sort of retribution.
Now mind you, I’m certainly not against religion. I am against so-called religious leaders who want to further their own agendas by blamming things on God. I doubt He appreciates it.
