    Lost and Found

Filed under: Crappola — DB @ 10:18 am

Well, maybe not so much lost as just missplaced for a while.

This summer has just not been a great one for me, but I'm trying to get back in the swing of things again.  My sister's death hit me pretty hard after months of trying to stay upbeat and positive for her on the phone.  For a family whose motto is 'Perseverance' it's hard to accept defeat, but in the end we all have to accept what we cannot change.

All of you who read my blog have been as loyal as any friend could hope for, and I thank you for that.  At best my posts have been sporadic over the past several months.  Although I couldn't bring myself to respond to the feelings you each expressed at the time, it meant more than you know that you took the time out of your days to let me know how you feel.

On a somewhat lighter note, I found that working for the government has its advantages (well, at least when you work in a hospital).  In my entire life I think I've spent maybe three whole days as a resident.  A day or two when I was born, and overnight when I was in Highschool after a football game where I got a partial concussion.  I've always hated hospitals and avoid them like the plague, only visiting when there is a friend in need.  It also has something to do with doctors who sometimes seem to have what I call a 'God complex' (see Christian from Nip/Tuck), but I won't go there right now.

I won't say that my attitude has changed entirely towards hospitals, after all there are sick people in hospitals, but I have met some really good people.  It may have something to do with working in a program designed to help children whose parents are in the military.  These kids often have it much harder than others because they have to deal with one or both parents being gone on a regular basis.  The other side of the coin is that the parents have to deal with being gone, missing the kids, and often being in a life or death situation wherever they are sent.  Understandably, children often develop issues which I think are probably accentuated by their environment.  Working with the Department of Education, Project Assist helps these kids, and I've been proud to provide technical support for the project for the past several months even on a temporary basis.  I've found a dedicated group of professionals who also happen to be very good and caring people.

Chris and I will be returning to school soon and the associated brain drain will be setting in soon, but I didn't want to wait any longer to thank everyone who has hung in there during my absence and expressed their support both here and in emails.  You're the Greatest!!

Tayler honey… give your mom a big hug and kiss from me for having such a compassionate and caring daughter.

If the birthday wellwishers who beat me to the punch posting (you girls rawk!) would like to copy/paste their comments to this post, I'd be happy to remove the other comments (Ayone know how to move a comment to a different post in this thing?)
